I sit by my orchids every day when I come home from work and just watch them, hoping for something... willing the spike to grow, hoping for my new orchids to adjust well. I have no idea HOW I missed this! While I'm lifting a giant leaf to peek at my tiny nub, there was another nub out in the open, 90 degrees to my left. I'm guessing this is a root, since it appears to be pointing down.
As if that wasn't shocking enough, it sprouted a leaf on top! I looked back at the original photo I posted and there is a small inkling of a leaf, but I didn't even know what it was when I first saw it. That's quite a lot of growth in 3 days, considering that it's been cloudy, raining and cold for all 3 days.
Here's an update of my flower spike. It's gotten a little longer but not much. Then again, some growth is always better than none.
