I am gonna repot it in a bark medium. Probably the same size pot though. What are the chances of this plant being ok growing outside. If i put it in a shady area under a tree would it do fine or should i sort of acclimate it first.

The Zygopetalum hybrid that I have had for many years, I grow in bark. It has survived outside on a patio in Southern California though it seems much happier now that it is in a greenhouse.

Hi as already said the ot looks more than big enough so don't repot any bigger. I would probably repot slightly smaller if you can... Also be careful of changing from pure spagh to pure bark. These like being kept moist, but also need to dry out - If you pot into new bark keep a very close eye on your roots as fresh bark dries out a lot quicker so you will probably need to water more frequently...
But, on the other hand watch out as a few OB members have rotted they're roots.. It's all about knowing your growing conditions & doing what is best in your conditions... I would suggest a clear pot so you can see the roots as well as using the 'skewer method' whatever medium you decide to use. Good luck & keep us posted.

I really agree with this....
I got a Zygopettalum in spag and changed it to LECA hydroponic medium. I didn't watch the moisture situation close enough and almost lost the plant.

Your plant's roots are used to sphag conditions so be careful during the transition.

Ok so i left the zygo alone. I kept it in its sphag potting material in the same pot but i moved it outdoors into a shady spot 2 days ago. Its sure to have gotten a little bit of sun for at least 4 hours and the leaves are still looking good. I guess my question is tonight the temperature is pretty chilly around 55 F. Will the cold night have any adverse effect on my acclimation? Should i bring it in from the cold?

If you repot some day down the road do not put the bulbs under the bark or moss at all they will rot, keep it moist and 55 degrees should not hurt the plant in any way
