Question Books...

Hello all!
Wanted to "Pick-your-brains"...
What would be the best overall Orchid book to get? I have the "Complet Guide to Orchids" from Ortho Books.
Would like to get something with A LOT more info...more details, etc.
I have seen a few on the web going for $100+, but this doesn't necessarily mean they are better.

Thanks for any input.

...BTW, my Dendro Denudans 2 Flower spikes are going to produce quite a few flowers (one has at least 12+ flower buds on the spike!)...and I recently noticed a bulge in the side of my Ascda. Orglade "Gold Spot" x Ascda. Bangkhuntien "Fuchs Gold", don't know if this is a potential flower spike or a root, but can only hope for the best!).

I also have that one along with Ortho's All About Orchids, The Orchid Specialist, Botanica's Orchids (which has over 1200 species listed) and Martin Motes' Vandas.

Depending on whether you're looking for something general or more alliance specific, there are many great books available. Our other members will chime in on this one and I'm pretty sure we have prior threads on the subject.

We have a few suggestions in the Book Reviews section of the forum listed in the site Menu.

Book reviews is a great place to start, but my all time favorite other than Ortho is "Orchids for Dummies" ... "the fun and easy way to grow the world's most amazing flowers." :Tup

Hi Cheryl! I was wondering about Orchid for Dummies, does it have a lot of info in it opposed to tons of pics? I'm so sick of buying orchid books that are like 95% pictures and about a page of info on each kind of orchid. I love pictures but if I wanted that I would look on the internet you know? I know usually those kinds of books have lots of text which would be perfect for me!

The best alltime orchid book for culture is "Home Orchid Growing" by Rebecca Northen. It's a bit dated but the information is very detailed with great chapters on hybridizing, genetics, and the important genera. She was a lovely lady with incredible blue violet eyes, and lived into her 90's.

I have 3 books that I've read pretty much cover to cover before I even bought an orchid. Can anyone write a book review? I'd be happy to review all 3 in the review section.
