orchid suggestions for intermediate light level?
Here's a question I have. Can you please suggest any orchid species that are related / similar to Cattleya but can bloom at somewhat lower light levels? I have just enough light to bloom Galeandra baueri or Angraecum scottianum, but not enough light to bloom Cattleya, Barkeria, or Sophronitis. I can't add any more lights, either. Growing conditions: temp 22-32C (72-90F) summer, 18-25C (64-77F) winter; humidity 40-60%; ceiling fan. This is indoors, so a compact plant is certainly a plus. Any ideas are welcome!

Your conditions should be good for most oncidium type orchids. I would think most Phals would be OK and some paphs as well. It depends on your grow area, but if the phals and paphs aren't directly under the light, they should do fine. Do you know what the foot candle measurement is? I actually do grow some of my paphs and phals under the same lights as the cattleyas. They are just shorter plants so are further away from the light.

Pollardia spp., Prostechea spp., or Anacheilium spp.
Maybe Scaphyglottis spp. or Hexisea spp.
These are all Cattleya relatives.

The following superficially look like Cattleyas, but are not Cattleya relatives. They are in the Arethuseae tribe.
Bletilla formosana
Bletilla ochracea
Bletilla striata

Perhaps something in the Oncidiinae subtribe, such as Trichopilia spp.

Leptotes bicolor is very compact and grows well in medium light with intermediate temps and regular watering. I think other Leptotes species have similar cultural requirements but bicolor's the only one I've tried so far. Isabelia pulchella also seems to bloom okay with medium light.
