Question sphag and bag question

I have a small Phal. in sphag and bag. My questions are: Do I periodically open the bag to let in fresh air and do I need to re-moisten the sphagnum at some point? Thanks, Lisa

Hi Lisa,
I am sure you will get a few different answers on the techniques to use for sphag-n-bag. Sometimes if I have problems with mold growing on the plant while using this technique, I will open the bag for some air, as well as spray the affected area of the plant with a solution of Physan 20 (I take the plant out of the bag to spray it), whether it I should be doing this, I don't know, but it works for me. If you do leave the bag open, you will find that the moss dries out and may have to re-wet it, but if you keep the bag closed, you shouldn't have to worry about the moss drying out. I have had success both ways so far, but I am new to growing orchids. I am sure others will chime in with their experiences. Hope this helps!
