Bought a Blue Phal... Male
Default Bought a Blue Phal...

Ok...I was rounding the corner in D and threw on the brakes! A Blue Phalaenopsis? Really? I did hear about these visiting a Home Depot in FL about a month ago). But never thought I would see them up north! I had to buy it!

I think they are sick-cool looking, but I just wonder how healthy the plants are...it looks like they inject dye of some sort in the stem to get the color...Just wondering if anyone else has seen /purchased a Blue Phal.

I attached a picture -- I do think they are pretty cool looking.

They do inject dye to give that unnatural blue color. The plant will probably bloom normal white next year.

I would agree. The blue color is just an injection of color. The blue is not a natural occuring phanomina.

The plant has as a good a chance as any of being healthy, and will bloom out white in the future when the dye is gone - a typical NoID white Phal. These hideous dyed monstrosities are really only suitable for the compost heap...

Thanks for the replies...Understanding that some people think it is horrible (as stated above) -- I think they are kind of interesting, but do prefer the natural colors/plants as well.

Thanks all,
Jared

Yeah, a lot of people are very against this practice. I personally like the color and look, but only wish it was naturally occuring. I would hate to be misled and bring one home believing what I'm seeing in the flowers now would not be there next time. My collections too big for that, lol... I want exactly what I see I'm buying at this point.

Yeah, I love a good white phal as well! I had one, but it met an untimely death. Fortunately, it produced a baby which I am still nursing and attempting to get roots to grow on.

There is just something about them that makes me cringe.
Ever see that model who calls herself "Barbie" that has had about 500 plastic surgeries?
She is very pretty.....but the longer you look....

"Ever see that model who calls herself "Barbie" that has had about 500 plastic surgeries?" I was laughing at that one, but understand the point.

I am leaning more toward the blue one as having a temporary tattoo... I still think it is pretty interesting -- It is like art, everyone has their own likes and dislikes...You can't please everyone!
