I know, i know. I probably should have staked my spike when it was still small. Is there any way to recover this? I really want to stake it so it grows up, but its currently in bloom and im afraid ill break off the blossoms. (its growing at an awkward angle) Should i just leave it or stake it? Also, a new spike has started growing, how long should it grow before i stake it? I read somewhere it should be at least 12inches.

Growing near a window? Its a common Issue.

Probably leave it, or move it gently a bit and restake. Doesn't sound like it will ever be vertical. It will still be beautiful.

The new smaller spike can be trained as it grows up the stake. Not to worry. Just be careful, and gentle about your business.

Rotating the orchid a bit each day as it sits in the window will encourage the spike and plant to grow almost vertically. Actually, the spike will spiral a bit. Once buds appear, stop rotating the orchid.

I think at the most you can probably only move it a bit. If you try to move it too much you will break it

There's always florist wire.

Spikes always try to find the sun.

I haven't had any luck changing the spike direction after it's bloomed. You may be able change it a little but not much. I start slowly when the spike is about six or eight inches long. Put a small stake in and tie the spike a little higher every couple of days. Luckily the spikes grow for a long time so it's not too hard to encourage them in a desired direction. Good luck.
