I agree about putting cyms outdoors, thanks to following this advice I had flowers on three out of four of mine this year which didn't happen before. i also put my Dendrobium nobile hybrid into a frost free grenhouse in the late autumn to get the brighter light and cooler night time temperatures that make it bloom. My dendrobiums generally like it brighter than the house can provide, so I put them out in high summer. My cyms are out already as we have had a really warm April

I'm a wimp! I put my two Catts and my Den. kingianum outside for the summer, and just make sure they get a quarantine period before putting them back in the case with everybody else. However, none of the tolumnia go outside. I know they like it -- I've done it in the past -- but I always had terrible scale issues with them when they came back in. Scale is so hard to get out of tolumnia! After losing pretty much my entire tolumnia collection a couple years ago, I just make sure they have a good HID light on them year round, and they get pampered indoors.

I keep them all indoors as well. The weather is too hot--100's & way too dry (semiarid). And then there's the wind--gusts up to 60 mph.

At our last place, I hade shelves on all of the wooden fences in the yard. This worked great, the fence would shade the plants for part of the day and keep them off the ground. I now have a small greenhouse, but it is often pretty hot, so I put my warm growers there and the others outside. If plants are on a window sill they usually only get light from one direction. That's not enough. I was very surprised, though, when I gave my friend a cym, which she kept inside all summer and it bloomed! She did have the window open a lot.
