You should be seeing slime trails if slugs are involved.

Yes.... my dog sleeps under one of my orchid benches. I throw it all around my property. I think I had to go to the extreme because of how infested my yard got.... last week I went through my orchids and all my other pots and found will over 40 slugs and close to 10 snails hiding under or in the pots!!! It almost impossible to grow basil or dahlias.

It could be a small snail, a slug, a cockroach or possible 50 other insects sent to try us. I seem to have them all!

A late evening (9-10 p.m) or an early morning (before daylight) patrol with a good torch would probably find the culprit.

Going armed with an aerosol can of insecticide is advised for the more fleet-footed vermin.

I haven't had a problem with rodents (yet) but I have an ample supply of rats as my rear neighnour is a Macadamia farm.

Why I'm thinking of it.... earwigs cause damage similar to snails but no slime trail

Thank you everybody for giving your very nice opinions. What I din was unpot one plant to see what's hiding underneath, and I found the culprit of this root tip eating insect, no other than two baby cockroaches hiding underneath the media.
