Phal Leaf rot :(

Hi Guys,

I started Phal collection, based on inputs from members I was careful while selecting Phals, with Strong Green roots..

But, my new plant has leaf rot on leaf, I removed the area and treated with cinnamon powered to cut ends, yesterday. But today I found it spread near to crown ;(

I am not sure how much on crown it effected. Now I removed the leaf, and treated with cinamon.

This plant I was very curious, as it has got strong long roots, and when I bought, it was in Moss.. it was dirty and soggy, so I removed and placed in coconut husk + charcoal.

Please see the photos, and suggest me. I am also posting pic of my orchid collection, please suggest me if I am doing any wrong in placing them.

Don't worry, there is still a chance that the Phal may be salvageable.

Try not to water for 2 wks (I know it's hard, it's sooo tempting to want to water).

If you've read the sticky "The Phal abuse ends here.", you'll see that Phals can still survive without leaves.

I posted photos of my Phal totally leafless and it is fine. It may look like a Chiloschista, but I guarantee you the plant in the photo is not a Chiloschista. Chiloschista and Phalaenopsis are close relatives anyways.

Your Vandas look fine for the time being. If the roots show signs of shriveling later down the line, you may want to consider growing in a pot (or in your case, find some large clear plastic buckets and drill some holes). Other than that, you can leave the Vandas as they are right now.

I'd probably just say put some lights over the Vandas, they look a little dark in color.

Thanks a ton! I will not water for 2 weeks from now. I want to save it.. Can I keep it near other Orchids ? Or should keep away ? I will try to put some light over Vandas..

You can keep it with the others. I don't think it's contagious. If you want to separate it you can.

You might want to also read what "BobInBonita" said in regards to your Vandas in the other post you made within the thread called "Vandas - pot or basket?". He makes some good points too.

Thanks! I am frequently online on OB! learning many things. And yes, I read and I am following all your valuable suggestions..
