I have several different varities of heavy textured yellows that do not get the spikes cut because they re-bloom on the same spike for several years in addition to making new ones each year. It must be something inherent in the yellows that cause them to do this. I have about seventy five Phals and last year I did not cut any spike that remained green after flowering was finished. The result was showers of flowers.

I am new but thanks for all the advice.....I have cut the spikes back (I have two of them) but the leaves are dying......I have only one leaf left with that tooo is dying......hopefully I have killed the poor thing off......

I like the white flowers that were produced......any suggestions on what types of orchids do well in 7b zones?

What you can grow in your area depends on your growing environment. For example, do you grow in a bright south window, under lights, in an aquarium or somewhere else? Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, dendrobiums and oncidiums will all do well in a southern exposure or under lights. The vanda types do not do well indoors except for Neofinetias.
