I recently purchased a Psychopsis Kah. from an orchid grower. I printed out the culture sheet for Oncidiums, but it's a bit vague about the watering. "Requirements vary with the type of plant." I couldn't find any info on this specific type of orchid so I'm hoping someone will have some advice!

It's sitting in a northeast facing window (the best I have access to right now) right next to a running water feature for humidity. My daytime temps are 70º and nighttime 65º. When summer gets here it is more like 85º and 70º. I bought it about 10 days ago, and I've watered it once. Only when the medium felt dry. It looks to be potted in some type of bark mixture, but I'm not exactly sure what kind because the seller didn't give me any info. He actually gave me a Cattleya culture sheet for it.

So I'm wondering if I let it dry completely like the phals I'm used to, or water more often? Thanks in advance for any help!!!!

I have 4 psychopsis. One has a double spike. It flowered one flower, blasted the next bud, and then sat dormant for a couple of months. I had been watering like you are. I have low humidity and about the same growing conditions as you except mine is in a south facing window. I started watering the heck out of it and actually keeping a bit of water in the saucer it is sitting in. It flowered again and held it for about 3 weeks and is just about to bloom again.

Don't know if the experts will say this is the right thing or not, but it is working for me. My p-bulbs are nice and fat and I am getting either another growth or a third spike.

There is actually a Psychopsis sheet offered by Larry's Orchids and Tropicals that you might want to pull. While it only has about a sentence on watering, it's a bit more exact as to the Psychopsis information.
