I've wanted to give my phals a bit more humidity so i decided to try and make a humidity tray, i got some dvd pots and squashed them together, drilled holes in the top pot and put bottled water in the bottom pot.
OK, here's the dissenting vote: That will do little-to-nothing to enhance the humidity, as the surface area - with or without pebbles - is just too low. Read this article on Evaporation
That's not going to do much. Like Ray says, the surface area is much too small to have any effect. Even large trays have a limited effect. The ideal situation would be to have a large tray with pebbles/hydroton in it, and have a group of plants on it.
