anyone know the min. temps for encyclia tampensis? i need to know asap. i found a colony of ants in my big enc. and i dont feel like taking care of it now. id like to leavae it outside. i think it will get down to 46

Named after Tampa FL., I would look up the temperatures year round there...

I think it should be fine, just protect it from the wind. It gets below 46 here in the everglades in the winter.

Mine has been exposed to upper 30's temps this season. It routinely is in the 40-50 range at night.

No appearent problems.

Mine has had no problem with 33F and I'd be really surprised if it couldn't handle a light frost. I should add that it's mounted...and I'm leaning towards the idea that mounted orchids can handle the cold better than potted orchids. Along those same lines...orchids mounted with less moss can handle colder temps than orchids mounted with more moss.
