What is the purpose of this sticky thread btw....?
It seems like questions would be answered better if people made their own threads or searched topics first (I very often forget that I can search and I know there are tons of repeat threads, but still).
Just wondering what it's current intended purpose is supposed to be.

People are supposed to read through it. A lot of basic questions are answered here.
It's also a good place to post basic questions without crowding the forum with new threads.

A perusal of the first few pages is recommended because most people just ask questions that are asked on a regular basis (several times a week). While members are happy to help, it does take time to answer in detail the same questions several times a week (sometimes several times a day).

As you pointed out, a search, or even looking thru the Phal and beginner forums, would likely provide answers, but most people don't do that, because, I suppose, it takes less effort to just post a new thread with a question that was likely posted by another (and answered by several) a day ago - but of course takes more of other people's time and effort to answer over and over.

If anyone has questions about or beyond what's here, they can post a new thread or in this one.

Originally it was a lot of answers to common questions, for people to read through, and for people to add more advice as they thought of it. That's what the first few pages are, but later pages are people asking questions.

I agree that people would get better answers if asking on a new thread. As someone who tries to help beginners I find myself getting lost in all the questions asked here so I don't really answer them as well as if they were in their own thread.

Question... should the moderators consider closing this thread to new posts. Most of the information is in the first few pages and if any more were added now it would be lost in all the questions.

If we were to close then new questions would have to be in their own threads.

I won't do that without generally agreement... especially from Philip who started the thread.

I have no problem with it being closed, if it's ok with Philip. I'm fine either way

Ummm as a newbie not long ago if the most basic of information was posted on this sticky were here kind of like a common care sheet that would be great, but now it is really overwhelming.

Yeah, close it. I don't think Carl, (aka "Angurek"), would mind it either.

Let's just make it easy for people to look up info when they need to refer to something more permanent.

70 pages is pretty overwhelming.

I can amend information to fit what is current Phalaenopsis information in previously posted postings.

My mistake, I thought it was yours

OK, I think if we close it then advise people to read the first few pages when we point them to it. That's what some of us have been doing anyway. The information at the beginning is really good stuff, and is really good to point new comers to.

I'll leave it open today for any comments on what I'm saying, but then I'll close it.

I might just edit the first post to add the same as I will add here.
