Must be shipping costs or something.
Those dyed orchids are $15 here...
I wonder why they dyed them green... my local stores get natural green pals in all the time.

The most I've ever paid for an orchid was $125, a big Paph. sanderianum. The least amount I've ever paid (besides free) is $1, I bought a flask of 45-50 baby orchids and paid $45 for it. That made my collection jump from 20 individual plants to 65 individual plants!
I buy quite a few orchids online. There is a small local vendor that specializes in orchids called The Plant House. I just bought 5 at a show, I was only going to get 3 but you know how it goes. You can buy a real green phal from Big Leaf Orchids called Phal. Yaphon Evergreen.
The local vendor above is actually an hour away. 30 minutes away is the only somewhat local seller of orchids, Hy-Vee. They seem to always have dyed ones and the orchids have a minimum price of $20 and can cost as much as $45 for a common, noid phal. And they never ever go on sale, they must send them back to the supplier.

I should not follow your links...but I'm going to...>_> I keep telling myself I won't buy any more until after we've moved and I know what kind of light source I'm dealing with (can you say Northwest window? ) and work out some plant lights, but..but...the temptation! I've seen them online, but if I pay $30 for 2 orchids online but $15 shipping, it's more expensive than if I buy two $20 plants at Giant and drive them home in my car. o_O Lol. Strange how that works.

Butterfly, I think "collecting" orchids is a harmless addiction. I mean, we could be smoking crack, drinking or gambling the house away. I would say that to keep it in check somewhat, don't buy anything that you don't absolutely love.

That is my solution to everything...usually. Sometimes there are just bargains I can't say no to. xD But yes, I try to limit buying anything to "Do I love this enough?" I did that yesterday and carried around a clearance print from Pier 1 with me until I finally talked myself out of it and put it back. XD Then Fiance came home and when I told him he was like, "I like that picture, it's cool" Derp. It's the Cold Stone principle, only get GOTTAHAVEIT! =)

Lately I have been buying orchids on ebay. You can look for specific orchids that you can't find in a typical store, but then again, you don't get to actually look at them in person before you buy. Frequently they are very small plants that take a year or more to come to maturity.

Random question: can you propagate an orchid from a cutting? Like its flowers? I had to cut the spikes on one of my gals cuz she didn't have enough roots to support the flowers once I cut all the rotted ones out.

Sometimes a phal will produce a keiki from a cut stem.
There's also mericloning...
Which involves turning each node on the flower stem into a clone of the mother plant.

Would the KLN I bought help with root production for that? What kind of medium would you use? I'm not going to do it, probably, but I'm curious. One of my friends is gaga over one of my orchids and it'd be cool to be able to give her one from mine someday.

Mericloning is alot like flasking. Sterile conditions and nutrient rich medium.
The keiki is something I've seen happen when they stick the stem in a vase of water...
I'm not sure if rooting harmone helps or not with that. Maybe...
You could always try keiki paste.
