BTW what are canes?
Canes are sticks, such as bamboo.

Some people use the word 'canes' to descride the pseudo bulbs but that, in my experience, is used by non English speaking individuals. The canes I was referring to was bamboo canes or split bamboo canes to use to support the plant. Don't bother about how the plant looks with all of the scaffolding to support it, the main thing you want is to create stability for the roots to grow. I might add here that there are studies out there about non-orchid species saying that plants can grow up to 50% faster when the roots get hold of something to grow/cling to. To date I have no reason to suspect that orchids are any different.
