Doesnt look that bad. As far as i can tell medium looks fine, at least on top and pots not too much to big. I think it could use little bit more light - leaves seems a little too dark. Use less water, if repot cut the dead roots off.
Good luck!

The plants look good. Water only when the medium is dry for cattleyas, then wet them well when you do water. Then let them dry again. Don't go by what the top of the medium feels like. Get a shishkabob skewer or chop stick, trim it down and keep it in the medium. The next time you think the plant needs water take it out and touch it to your lip, cheek, or the back of your hand. If it's dry, water. If it's damp, wait. How wet or dry the skewer is before you water will depend on the needs of the particular orchid. Cattleyas like to dry out after being watered.

Oh no! I'm worried about my roots. They're white, but not as good as the above roots.

In this case, you would want to cut back the mushy, non firm part of the roots with a sterile blade (I use scissors that have been flamed). I spray or soak the roots in fungicide. Repot in new medium. You may need a smaller size pot. Good luck.
