NOID WITH BLACK SPOTS ON LEAVES
Default NOID WITH BLACK SPOTS ON LEAVES

Got this NOID from Trader Joes and didn't see the tiny black spots until I got it home. Dropped a leaf but is otherwise OK. Lives next to many other plants in GH. What should I do with it?

I'm not really an expert on this, but I've seen something similar on a Cambria Bob Cat (or at lesat a NoID which might be that).

I kept it quarantined in the first place, but it did not seem to spread and in the end I mixed it in with the others and it's never spread to them.

I got the impression with mine that it's just something it's prone to do.

But I'm not certain, maybe somone else thinks it's more of a problem

I've heard of many people complaining about black spots on Oncidiums (particularly Sharry Baby) - I think it's often just a normal characteristic of those plants and not a disease.

I notice you've entitled "poss spider mite" - doesn't look like spider mite to me - that's usually underneath the leaves and silvery. A sure-fire test for them is to wipe a damp cloth (white) along the bottom of the suspect leaf(s); you'll get rusty red-brown streaks on the cloth if it's spider mites.

I have read that some of the odontoglossum orchids have small spots. It is just how they are. Some of mine get that and other crosses are entirely clear. I think the more odontoglossum it has, the more chance of spotting.

Default Black spots

Thank you for the reassuring words. I haven't seen the spots spread to any other plants and there is no decline in leaf or root health that I can see.

I agree with the above that these plants can have spotty leaves. Mine never deteriorated at all and went on to blossom for years
