Default two new ones

I got these two recently. Since I am just a beginner I have just picked my three orchids up whenever I see them...at the supermarket, etc. The green colored one came from walmart tonight for 15 bucks. It's almost two feet tall.

And a question.....when is the best time to repot orchids? Should I wait until they are not blooming, or? Any input on repotting them is greatly appreciated

Since these are recent buys, I would check the root system to make sure it's healthy there.
I've repotted phals in flower, after checking the roots - Just becuz they flower doesn't meen they are healthy inside the pot, overwatering and broken down media (Learned that one)

So, I guess I would only repot if I thought the roots looked abit funky, Otherwise I would leave it be and enjoy those blooms

Congrats on your new 'chids!

Well this greenish one actually does look very good down there....they have it planted in a clear container placed inside a clay pot so I was able to remove it. The roots look healthy but are wrapped round and round all the way at the bottom. Not sure if this matters...if not, I'll leave it.

The other two I was going to repot because they used shagnum (spelling) moss only and some members suggested another mix like fir bark etc.

thanks for the input

Hi Marisa,
Nice 'chids

It goes against all the "rules" but I always repot my 'chids as soon as they get home. I like to see what's going on underneath what shows on top. I've never lost one but I have definitely saved a few that were in bad shape when I removed them from the stuff they came in.

Sweet buy Marisa...Gloria gave good advise.

Here is a link to AOS cultural sheet for the type of orchids you graphed...Phalaenopsis.

Thanks for the links and the information!!!

I think I WILL repot the two that came in moss...and leave the one i got at walmart today. They have it in fir bark and like I mentioned, its roots do look pretty good to my untrained eye.
