I went on Friday. It was overwhelming. Soo many orchids everywhere. Lots of phaelanopsis and cymbidiums in bloom. I came home with an angraecum didieri (in bud), neofinetia tamakongo, and a masdevallia. The people at Cal Orchid are great! Super nice. The husband of the pair gave me an amazing deal. Bring cash if you go. CC machine of one seller was having trouble when I went.

I'm tempted by the idea of going again tomorrow to pick up a few more.

the show's definately worth checking out in person, and there's some great deals on plants, too. if you go sunday, many of the vendors will have reduced prices, since they'd rather not bring everything home.

I went today and spent 4.5 hrs there. This was my first time visiting orchid show. I was speechless: so many beautiful orchids! Of course I couldn't go home empty handed. Now I have to find space for lots of orchids.

I went on Saturday and wandered around for 5 hours. Harry Phillips is an old friend of mine so I spent a lot of time hanging around Andy's booth just sipping beers and visiting.

From them I picked up:

Vanda luzonica
Encyclia guatemalensis
Epidendrum parkinsonianum
Masdevalia infracta (purple)
Vanilla planifolia variegated green and white

He had the Vanda set aside for me, and I was going to allow myself to buy maybe one more plant (two more max!), but who was I trying to kid?

I also couldn't resist a nice large Masdevallia ignea in bloom from Golden Gate Orchids.

And since I was there figured I might as well get some 6" clear plastic pots, some sphagnum moss and a few pot hangers as well, right? Why not?

Then, just to make my little outing twice as expensive, I got a speeding ticket on the way home. Argh!

Anyway, it was an awesome show with a great turnout and the weather was beautiful by SF standards. I highly recommend checking it out if you have the opportunity. And I agree with the person who mentioned there will probably be some deals to be found on Sunday. Worth slogging through the rain today.

I'll try to post some pics of my haul later.

I wound up not being able to go.

Kinda sucks that I can't get a carpool or a place to stay for cheap considering I would be coming from SoCal.

I had to get the order I made for the show shipped to me. I'll post photos when they arrive.

Maybe next year...

Gotta make it out to the largest international orchid show in the west coast at least once...
