Did I re-pot at the right depth?

Hello All,

I'm wondering if I re-potted my Oncidium at the right depth in my pot. I was able to take some chunky top pieces of the top of the medium. This is what it looks like without all the chunky medium in the top of the pot.

I heard root-rot is very easy to get and not realize it. so that's why i took the chunky pieces off the top to view the bottom of the plant more. I also noticed this new root coming out of the plant as seen in the pictures I've posted.

Any advice? or does this look good to everybody?

P.S.

The darker splotches worried me till i touched one and it came off like dried powder, anything to worry about?
