You should try some brazilian species. Leptotes, sophronitis, rupiculous laelias. They are quite small and have nice flower / plant size ratio.

Most are forgiving but generally like bright intermediate/warm days and cooler nights. High humidity, as with most minis or orchids at all, is key.

I would like to add to King of Orchid Growing's list. These are all plants that I have in my collection. They are greenhouse grown in Central Florida. I have had all of them for more than a year and they do quite well during our warm weather.

Den. obligophylum
Sedirea japonica
Schoenorchis fragrens
Sophronitis cernua
Amesiella monticola
Den. moniliforme
Den. unicum
Phal. parishii
Phal. Mini Mark
Neofinetia falcata
Aerangis biloba
Aerangis Citrata
Aerangis punctata
Aerangis mooreana
Den. aberrans
Haraella odorata
Aerangis leuto alba v. rhodosticta
Tuberolabium woodii
Ceratostylis rubra
Ceratostylis phillippinensis
Laelia lilliputiana

These are all under a 4" leaf span with Schoenorchis fragrens being less than 1".

Have fun searching.

By the way, you can put rupicolous laelias in full sun, thats how they thrive.

I just wanted to say thanks again for the recommendations. I am a really big psy. Papillio fan I have quite a few and they do great for me. When I seen the Nageliela purpurea I just thought it was so cool. I have never seen one and can't wait to get one. The only place I could find one was at the Santa Barbra orchid nursery. I live in Florida and they said they would have to quarantine the plant for one month before shipping with a 50/50 survival rate. Iam not sure what I think about that. I will try andys orchids..... This seems like a very rare plant. Thanks again for all your help! It is much appreciated sky

Default Good miniature orchids Book

I just checked out a good miniature book from the library. It is Miniature Orchids by Steven A. Frowine. He divides the orchids into miniature, dwarf, and compact, with pictures of each plant and gives information on each about growing conditions etc. It has a lot of information.
