New Growth - Orchid Board

Woohoo! My dendrobium is finally showing signs of new growth! It was a brown patch on there for several months. I wondered if it was an ugly scar of perhaps even rot. I figured as long as it didn't spread, I was ok. Today, I noticed this round green nub in place of the brown patch. I am guessing it has to be a new cane forming as it's too big to be a root. Yay!

The brown patch was an "eye" which is where a new growth will emerge from as you have found out!

I've been misting those roots and top layer of PrimeAgra in the background every morning and the "eye" happens to get wet. Since there is new growth, should I stop misting? Is rot something I need to worry about?

No you are doing fine ...and the new eye will put out roots as well at the base ....I mist mine exactly the same every day new growths or not ....

I picked up my dendrobium to water it today and noticed there was another growth on a different cane!! Granted it's not as gigantic as the one in the picture but it's a tiny green nub. Would this mean it's a cane since the roots are white?

if its at the base of a cane it is a new lead ...oops and a lead is a new cane starting into growth in case you were wondering

They are both at the base. Where would it appear if it were a root? Wouldn't they both appear at the bottom of a cane?

New roots generally don't appear until after the new growth has started growing, sometimes new roots don't start until the new growth is almost matured.

I have a small cane that I sphagged and bagged to save. It originally broke off the one in the photo in the original post. Since it broke off, it has a new growth and even has several tiny leaves. It has a total of 4 small roots about 1/2 - 1/4" each. If it puts all of its energy into putting new leaves, when can I remove it from its enclosure since there is less than 4" of total root?

I have it closed off in a small tuberware with 2 small holes (as in semi-hydroponics containers) for air circulation. The small cane is getting close to the top of the lid. Is there anything I can do to get it to focus more on root growth so I can eventually work towards removing the top lid and out of intensive care?
