Default Paphs are Fun!! BUT....

The paphs I own, have really been fun growing them and watching them bloom . In fact they are too easy...don't slap me if your a paph killer, you using too much water!!! I havent gotten any really hard ones yet is what that amounts too
I want to explore some more orchids . I got over my love of all things orchids and started trying to concentrate on what does good for me. Learn from them.
I havent killed my last 5 phals . Even have my 1st home grown phal spike. Sphagnum is not the killer some make it out to be for the phals . Put my phals back in sphagnum and they love it. Again, you using too much water if your killing them.
Now I want to get into some Masdevallias/Draculas bec they also are doing well for me . I not killed the 3 I bought in august from J&L. Most everything else I got from them died though. Wasnt the plants,, they looked good when I got them. Just tiny and I learned TINY takes hard hits if they arent treated JUST right, more so than a large established plant. I used too much WATER~~
But anyway I just want to be more active in a positive way.Continue to show my thanks and support to all of you who have contributed to my love of orchids

AND I am still a total NOOB!!!! just know more about being an Orchid BOOB !!

Second Revival now begins I will keep you all updated with pretty pics maybe if I can figure out how I can do that without involving too many people on my end..

Dracula Carderii
Masd.Cameo (Confetti X exquisita)
Masd.Crinceps x Mooreana
Masd. Maui Lollipop
Onc. Mendenhall' Hildos' FCC/AOS
Paph. Prime Child (yeah I had to have him)
Dendrobium cuthbertsonii (Package of 3)
Epidendrum longirepens

Good luck. I just got some masdies myself. My first 3. Not too tiny though. I actually got one from J&L at the local show here. She told me they had flown in from the east. Very healthy looking. Let's hope we both do well. You will love the Hildos. Mine is in bloom again right now. Big showy flower this bloom. I found they like more water than I thought.

Cool, I'm not a Dracular fan but I love Masdies.

Now Masdies DO do well in moss in my experience. I grow them in moss and porus clay pots and the seem to like it a lot.

Good luck RJ I'm yet to add a Masdie to my set but it's on the list of ones I want to look at/ into when I, hopefully, go to my first show this year in Peterborough (which is pretty big from what I can tell).

Looking forward to pics when you're able to upload them

I've surprised myself by having good luck with Masdies. I haven't worked up the courage to try Draculas, though.

RJSquirell~~

Please tell me your system for paphs. I have a few & while the foliage is doing very well. It seems like forever to have the bud open. I have a bud that appears to be healthy on the spike for 2 months without opening. Is this typical for you?

May I contact you via email? If so, let me know.

Im really suffering here not being able to post pics of these arghhhhhh

BUT Got my order from kalapana today all of it was in spike or blooming!!!
Dracula Carderii about 10 blooms
Masd.Crinceps x Mooreana 3 large blooms..these are big flowers.
Masd. Maui Lollipop has 4 spikes working

Paph. Prime Child (yeah I had to have him). No spike or bud but I can get him to work for me some..

Goodness my little masdies I have are freeking weak and TINY..these kalapana masdies are HUGE. They just grew in paradise thats all.. Welcome to the ghetto mister masdies. Hope you like smog.
I love it when people post pics of stuff they grow in the jungle orchids gone wild!!!

I get some pics and put them in the proper places.

The dracula is really nice and the Mooreana Masde is just awesome huge..I think I said that.Well a pic is worth a thousand words..Ill get a pic bec I dont think anyone here has patience for a thousand words.

The Mendenhall' Hildos' has a fresh spike about 18 inches long...I use to feel like I was "cheatin" buyin orchids in spike. I dont anymore. Its just part of the life cycle in the plant and it happens to be cool not having to wait 6 months or YEARS for a bloom

The paph is about 6 growths and HUGE

Still waiting for mountain orchids to come thru but I spoke with darrin and he said they send as soon as they can. Weather ya know..I learned how to be patient in some cases and talking to people can put aside any mysterious coincidences the virtual world might toss at ya.

sucks no pics I know

I had an entire collection of Paphs, but got none of them to bloom (I got them all in spike/bud) after their initial flowering. I found they took up too much space, with very large leaf-spans, and just couldn't get them to re-bloom......

I now have all Neofinetia falcata and Aerangis and Angraecum. Much smaller plants, most of them mounted, so I have more room for more plants, since I grow exclusively on Windowsills.

I love Masdevallia ---- but Killed every single one I owned. I spent a fortune on them, and just did not have the right growing enviornment for them at all.
I'm very envious of those of you who can grow and Bloom Masdevallia !
