Default Is this tolumnia?

The seller told me to divide into 3(I see 3 new leads) but i was wondering if it would be ok to just put the whole plant into a bigger pot? Anyone grow these?

Looks like a tolumnia... Or similar breeding. I don't know that I'd repot it at all... They like to be pot bound. If you do move it up, don't use too big a pot, maybe an inch bigger. I wouldn't divide it, myself.

Tolumnia like to be watered often and dry completely.

If you take it out of the pot you will find it is being grown in 100% charcoal in order to dry rapidly. A clay pot is also used to aid drying.

So be very careful when re-potting into a larger pot. Too much space will slow drying and rot the plant. Do not use any bark or sphagnum.

They have very little roots, although, yours is probably filling the pot. The roots grow very very slow, so again be very careful on re-potting.

Not that experienced with Tolumnia, but it does somewhat look like the pictures I've seen of them. Ditto to the growing instructions above.

It looks a very healthy plant with lush leaf growth. Tolumnias have very fine tiny roots so when you pot a tolumnia be careful what sort of mix you use. I grow mine on the inside of dry coconut shells and the roots of the tolumnia love gripping the fibre inside the shell and multiply. But aware that it is a slow grower and generally does not like to be repotted. Give it good light - not direct sunlight - lots of air circulation and keep it cool with regular spraying. Good luck

Oh, no direct sunlight! Oops, I just got one and put it in a place where it does get some. I will be moving it now! Thanks for the heads up.

Definitely tolumnia. And beautiful, too! I suspect there is more than one plant in there, but you won't know for certain without un-potting it (or waiting for it to bloom).

I will usually only re-pot a tolumnia if something's wrong with its growing situation (potted in bark, or something like that). Otherwise, I'm more likely to do something like drop a small clay pot into a larger clay pot by way of "repotting." (Mind you, the small pot will frequently be completely engulfed in roots by this time.)

I grow mine either mounted, or in straight LECA. In your case, whether or not I tried a re-pot would depend on what the plant was already in, and the condition of the roots. Which, unfortunately, you probably won't be able to tell without getting it out of the pot.

Thank you all. One more question, is it a good idea to leave this in the rain? Anyone tried?

As long as it is able to dry out quickly after the rain, and the temperatures are warm, I'm sure it would love it!
