Default Windowsill growing . . .

Hi -
Just wanted to check in to see if there are any other Apartment Windowsill orchid growers here on the Orchid Board....

What are you growing ?
What do you find to be your greatest challenges?

I grow all of my orchids on 3 windowsills - (1) with a SOUTHEAST exposure, and (2) with SOUTHWEST exposures.

I'm growing Neofinetia, Darwinara, Dendrobiums and have just Ordered a few Aerangis and Angraecum.

Would enjoy hearing what others are growing on their Windowsills ........

I grow in the windowsills of my appartment to. One Southeast, one southeast shadow (Balcony) and one southwest. I mainly grow Encyclia, Cattleya, Galeandra, Thunia and recently bought some Barkeria's. Still trying to figure out what I can grow in the shadow trying a Paphinia at the moment which is growing rather nicely.

Main challenge are: Low humidity in the winter solved by putting wet towels over the central heating and high temperature in the summer try no to repot plants outside of the best possible time and if neccesary reastablish them in the greenhouse of my parents.

I grow all my plants in windowsills, but not in an apartment. I have 3 Phalaenopsis, an Ascocenda, a Paphiopedilum, and a Beallara. All are in a west window except for the Ascocenda that hangs in a south window.

I grow a bit of everything on my windowsill in the netherlands. Phals, dens, onc intergenerics, various minis and even a Catt. I have a northeast window that I supplement with artificial light,a nd everybody spents the summer home in France on south facing windowsills. And me too, I drape wet towels on the radiator that's under the window to raise the humidity! My minis will be going into a makeshift terrarium soon, I'm tired of trying to keep up with their watering needs!

I'm in central NJ and I grow all cattleyas in an unshaded, curtainless east/southeast window. (I did have oncidiums, miltonias, dendrobiums and a degarmoara sucessfully growing in west windows, but I no longer grow these plants). But they do go outside in the summer, and I think that it's so beneficial for them, it holds them over for the winter and helps them to survive.

Not in an apartment but in a house. I grow on North, East, South and West windowsills. Plants include Cattleya, Laelia, Neostylis, Phalaenopsis, Rhynchostylis, Sarcochillus, and Vanda.

I live in an apartment and am a windowsill grower. I have East, West and South facing windows. In the East facing, I grow Phals, Paphs, a Dracula and a Masdevalia. In the West facing window I grow Zygopetalum, Zygonisia, Zelglossoda, cymbidium, and oncidium. In my south facing window I keep vandanaceous orchids.

I have east and west facing windows. I just started with orchids last April with a couple of cymbidium divisions. They summered outside and are now in the west window, along with some more cyms a 3 cattleyas. In the east window I have a phal & a paph and some other houseplants. One of the cyms I purchased in Nov. had a small spike (~1") and is now blooming.
