Why a NoID is a NoID. - Page 6 - Orchid Board

Let's remember that most of us began our love for orchids with a NoID, so let's not discount them like a "starter wife". I have several NoID's that I've had for almost 10 years. They are my best bloomers, and I chose them because I actually saw them in bloom at the grocery store and was visually awakened - love at first sight. However, I have purchased many ID-ed orchids online, and then been disappointed when they bloomed - I probably wouldn't have bought them if I saw them in a grocery store. And really, let's face it, unless you are planning to enter your orchids in a show or reproduce them for sale, how much does it really matter if they have an ID? I understand being selective and culling the herd, but really, for most of us, it is just a hobby and if you love the plant, you love the plant!

yes we love the plants... they are enchanting... that's why I bought them one at a time!!

Many of my phals are NoID, and I buy mostly named orchids now, but like Steve if I really like a NoID I will still get it, and I won't get rid of my existing NoIDs

Greetings - I am a newbie to this forum (just joined today)!
I've got 2 NoIDs - I do not even know what genus they belong to! I know I've got 5 posts to make before I can upload photos. Once I'm ready to do that, do I post them here?

There s a link in the welcome page that will help you understand how to get your photo posted. Welcome to the board. I am new myself. Joined a couple weeks ago. It has been fun and informative. Post your comments and you are on your way to get your first five posts, so you too can upload photos. Enjoy!

It would be better to make a new thread to put your pictures in, as they might not get the proper audience here. I made this thread mostly as an educational one, not really to identify plants.

I have lots of noids but have been identifying them or giving them away to friends and family. I'm culling my collection because I like species and paphs best and have very, very limited space. If I had more space, I'd keep every orchid. I am educating my friends and family about orchids though. I'm also getting more serious about orchids and am hoping to do a little breeding, selling, and get some plants judged.

Post a new thread with the pictures in the 'Identification' section of the forum. That's the best place to get answers. People should be able to help with Genus, or at least a group of similar genera. That should help give you care guidance.

WOW! This thread has help me a lot understanding the naming of orchids and understanding NoIds. I have a few noids and my favorite has very beautiful blooms.
I also have a few that have ids and I have yet to see them bloom.
I would like to thank you all for the wonder info on noids.

One thing i do struggle with our Noid's is they will not stop flowering, you can get a bit peeved seeing the same flowers for months and months, so we buy another of a colour we don't have and the cycle goes on.
