Wow, that is different! I kind of like it and would have bought one, too (if it wasn't too expensive). I have a lot of white phals. Hmmmmm, maybe I will experiment on them! hehe However, I was at the Ft Laud show all Friday afternoon and didn't see them. Do you know who had them? Oh, yea... I vote "Boy, that's cool and different".

There was a discussion on this a couple months ago. I personally think it's kind of cool. I would be interested in the process on how it's done. What if they did it with a glow in the dark solution. OH YEAH!!!!

It certainly is different, isn't it?
I'd be curious to learn more about the process - what's in the silver solution? Through what means is it delivered to the orchid? How is it that the chemical is only retained in the tissue of the flower and not the plant? How on earth can it last for 3 blooming cycles?
The dark blue lip is really interesting.
Thanks for sharing.

I would love it if it were natural. I probably would have bought it anyway. My mother in law would be in LOVE! Blue is her favorite color.

What if, on a white phal, you put food coloring in all of the waterings from the time the spike started to form? I have some white phal NOIDs forming spikes now. I would love to try it. Could it blast the buds?

Its pretty,
but thats just as bad as injecting fish with dye, theres always lasting bad effects on anything thats been alterd. Subjecting the Phal or any other plants to injections of dye's or other chemicals that is not the norm could and will leave terrible/detrimental lasting results..

Maybe it should be called "Frankenphael"
The vendor at the farmers market dindn't have any other info, and what he had was second hand. His father apparently was the one who picked up 25 for him to sell. He sold 20 on Marco Island yesterday, and I got his last around noon. Ther vendor was John Akamai of Akanai Accents out of Port St Lucie.
Silver has been used as a folk remedy for decades - both as an antimicrobial and to treat syphilis. People with silver toxicity have had a bluish tint, but I've always pictured it more of a grey-blue.
If I remember the earlier thread, the consensus was that dyes didn't get taken by the roots - only if the stem was cut.
I still can't decide what I think of it - every time I walk past, I admire the color, but am somehow repulsed at the same time.

I hate artificial, too. I've seen fish that have been injected with dye. I once bought a Zebra danio that was an unusual pink, and after I got home with it I looked it up. The eggs are injected with Jellyfish DNA! The fish actually glows under black light! If I had known, I wouldn't have bought it. It was really hyper!
