Default New growth from nodes? keiki?

Hi everyone,

I'm new to both orchids (phals & cymbidiums in particular) and to the board and thus far really enjoying all the posts and getting some great information. However with one of my phals I can't seem to understand what exactly is growing from the nodes right below the 2 cut spikes. Are these keikis?

I went on vacation for 5 nights and came home to see this! I had all my phals over humidity trays since I was going to be away. It seems this one in particular responded nicely to the humid conditions and probably because it was left alone for a while. I have attached a couple photos.

Thank you in advance for your help!
Jenn

Hello and welcome to the OB.
Your plant is starting a branch with the possibility of a couple more blooms.
Have you checked the roots lately? that leaf looks pretty yellow.

Hi, thanks!
Well that's good news...I'm very excited, I can't wait for new blooms.

The roots seem okay. That leaf is a bottom leaf, even though it may be hard to tell in those photos.

Sorry about the photos being sideways....iphone tends to do that.

Does a plant with a new branch need more lighting? Should I move this closer to the window?

Yup, looks like a little spike. Looks like you'll be getting more blooms in the near future!

Thanks everyone!

Do you recommend continuing to fertilize twice a month?

Hi Joann,

It's about two feet from a south facing window.
