care of orchids in the tropics

I am currently living in Jakarta, Indonesia and while there are orchids everywhere, I am unsure of how to care for the ones I have. It is difficult to find products to fertilize with (that I know what they are) and I don't know what kind of schedule for blooming and resting I should expect since we are only 6 degrees below the equator and there are no real seasonal changes other than rain or lots of rain. Any advice from anyone who lives in the tropics or has lived in the tropics as to how to adjust my growing techniques.
