Question Alive or dead?

Are any of these stringy threads roots? If so, are any of them alive or dead? Thanks

You can, I usually do as they sometimes cause mold and stuff to grow in the bags. You could also spray them with a fungicide before putting them in bag. Good luck and remember sometimes it takes a while!

If they are dead it's better to remove.

An easy way to tell if a root is dead is when you can easily peal the outer root layer from the core.

Yesterday I soaked the roots (?) in a hormone mix and then I gently pushed the outside of those strings. The outer covering squished and came off easily, so I assumed they were dead. What was left was these strings and I wasn't sure if they can resurrect once in this stage. I didn't want to clip off anything that might have some life in it.

If a root is partially dead you should be able to feel the difference between the living firm and the dead soft part. The living part will never shed the outer layer on orchid roots.

If your plant is a Cattleya, it should have no trouble comming around as the growth spurt will start (spring is creeping toward us) soon. Everything on it looks nice and green and you have multiple pseudobulbs for an eye to draw from. You've done as much as can be done, now comes the waiting part!
