Help with making my orchids make roots. Male
Default Help with making my orchids make roots.

I am a bit of trouble in my mind. I have over 40 orchids in my bathroom under a grow light. I keep that light on for more than I really should (12 hours) as hard as I try, my orchids will not grow roots. I don't care if they flower right now or not, I just want healthy plants. I know that most of my cattleyas are not going to make root, but I am worried about my others, any tips?

The amount of new roots produced on the older pseudobulbs on a Cattleya is rather limited.

The most amount of new roots comes from the leads.

Which means spring is when you should be prepared for learning how to grow strong root systems.

If you place the plants on seedling heat mats, and keep them moist, root growth is certain.

Thanks to Ross for that one - where is he, anyway?

Idk, maybe on a different board?

Haven't seen him post here for at least a year or so.

Listen to Ray, he's the man. You might also try Dyna-Gro KLN once a month, and/or even liquid seaweed. Seaweed can grow as much as a foot a day.
