Vanda losing leaves
Default Vanda losing leaves

Hi,
I've bought a hanging Vanda recently, but it started to lose its leaves from the roots up. All the leaves that fell off were a bit damaged and they turned yellow and then dried. Now i put it in a glass vase but it looks funny with the part where there are no leaves. Can I do anything so that the leaves grow back there or is that part just going to stay without leaves?
Thanks for your answers.
Timi

Welcome to OB Timi!

Unfortunately the lost leaves will not grow back. Since you put it in the vase have the roots started growing?

Hi Ted,
well, I've put it in vase this morning. there's a new leaf growing on it and the roots seem to be strong (i haven't figured out how to post a pic yet). I guess'I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Once your vanda has lost it's leaves they are gone. In time it will grow roots above the bare spot and when you have a couple that are about three inches long you can cut the bare spot off. Usually a chill will start those lower leaves falling. But maybe just a change in enviroment did it. The vase will give the roots the humidity they need, an soon winter will be over, I hope.
