Default I lost a webite bookmark! hybrids genealogy

Last year I remember having found a website which was JUST AWESOME.

I was able to look up ANY registered hybrid and learn what its parents were. Some hybrids have hybrids for parents themselves, so I'd repeat the lookup and get all the species in a complex hybrid's ancestry.

Does anyone know this site, or a similar one? Thanks!

Are you talking about the International Orchid Register? The link I ahead is the area dealing specifically with parentage and grew search. --> The International Orchid Register / RHS Gardening

Thanks, August, that site isn't the one. I was looking at it earlier today and it's hard to use: I can't figure out how to simply search for the hybrid's name, for example "Brassolaeliocattleya Zul 'Waimea Fantasy'"

I can't help you with the website you are looking for, but I can help with the genealogy of your plant.

First it's been reclassified as Rth. (Rhyncattleanthe) Zul. It's parents are Gur. skinneri X Rth. Orange Nuggett. It's 50% Gur. skinneri, 12.5% Gur. aurantiaca, 12.5% Rl. glauca, 9.38% C. dowiana, 6.25% C. rex, 3.13% Rl. digbyana, 2.3% C. trianae, 1.6% C. schroderae, .8% C. cinnabarina, .8% C. crispata, and .8% C. harpophylla. Courtesy of OrchidWiz. Probably too much information.

I use the one above, not sure what others there are.

To search for the name of an orchid just click on the 'grex name search' then enter the name. A tip here is that if it doesn't find your orchid try again without the genus to search accross them all... in case the genus has changed.

In your example you would just enter Zul as the 'Waimea Fantasy' is a cultivar name (hence in quotes) and these are not registerd and not needed to get the parents. Entering Zul gives two pages of results and on the second page is Rhyncattleanthe Zul which is I think the one you are looking for and has the same parents Terri indicates above.

This is a good example of one where not putting in the genus is more likely to find the result you want as it has changed and is no longer registered as Brassolaeliocattleya
