I believe these guys like bright indirect light and moist (not soggy wet) media.
What type of potting media are you using and how old is it? It may be time for a change if the roots are refusing to go into it.

If your roots are not wanting to go into the leca it is probably too dry. If your humidity is low, just spray the leca every day or so to keep it moist and your roots will start going down into it.
Can you post a picture?

I find that brassadas and other Oncidiinae intergenerics thrive in semi-hydroponics.

As background, Daniel and I have been conversing on this plant on the First Rays Semi-Hydroponics Forum, but here is some info I did not know until now:

1) Some plants are simply "climbers", with the new growth being above, rather than beside the old growths, so that may be totally normal, rahter than a sign of a problem. The fact that the growths dry out is a matter of the cultural conditions being improper.

2) This hybrid is a primary cross of Ada aurantiaca and Brassia brachiata (now known as Brassia verrucosa). The ada is a cold-grower from 2000-3000m elevations in wet, Columbian forests. The brassia is tolerant of warmer conditions, but the hybrid probably needs cool, moist, very humid conditions, and that's hard to accomplish in a home environment.
