Maxillaria Tenuifolia spike?

Are these two little guys spikes? The second pic does have a new root too. I got this, and a couple others, from a friend at work who didn't have time anymore to take care of her chids, so I'm not really familiar with this guy.

those are new growths and bulbs coming up.

the flower spikes on a tenufolia with sprout between the bulbs and leaves higher up on the reed.

The plants not mature enough to start tossing spikes out yet

Yeah, I don't have much experience with these yet, but mine came with new growths and these remind me of those. They put up these pointy growths which eventually fatten at the base to for the p-bulb (as mine is now doing).
