I have a Dend Anosmum and I know to hold off on watering til buds appear. But, some say to water enough to keep canes from shriveling. Do they mean the old canes or the new ones? I stopped watering and the older are shriveling and the new ones are losing their leaves...is this right?

I also have an anosum that I'm concerned about (my first winter with it). Bumping the thread to hopefully get some responses for you.

I believe that you are supposed to completely withhold watering. And yes, the canes are supposed to be losing their leaves.
I'm not too sure about the watering enough to keep canes from shriveling. I only have 1 winter resting Den, and this is the second winter that I'm giving it a real winter rest (got it as a baby, so needed to focus on growing). Last year I would very lightly mist the roots once a week. I only got 2 buds on the plant, but don't know if it's because of the watering or because I didn't keep it quite cool enough.

If no one can give you an answer in this threas, I know that Ross has this orchid and always gets tons of blooms on it, but I don't think he's been on OB in quite some time. You could try sending him a PM maybe. I think that Sue (cb977) has one too, so hopefully she'll see this thread!
