Default removing spent leaves from Phals

I went to a Rutgers education center last week and saw Beth Davis from Waldor orchids. She answered questions and showed how to pot a couple of orchids.
She showed us how to remove spent leaves from the phals. She said to tear them right up the center and remove one half at a time. She did say that you could cut them if that is what you wanted.
I had one bottem leaf that needed removng and tried the tearing method. Was very easy to do.
Do you Guys cut or tear?

I usually just wait until it's ready to come off on it's own. That tearing down the middle sounds interesting. I'll have to give it a try on the next dying leaf I get.

I did not say, but the leaf I removed was yellow and dry. The plant has nice green one on the top. Just a natural old leaf die off I think.

If they are yellow then eventually the plant will drop them on it's own and I usually wait for that.

I have used the tear method while repotting in the past though and it worked easily. I just rarely remove them untill they just fall away on their own.

I never tear old leaves off my plants, I just wait for them to fall off naturally. No point rushing nature.
