So I noticed when I was watering the other day, that the new roots on my Cattleya are stark white. Also, they wouldn't green up when watered. I dug down to look at the tips and they seem to be light green and transparent looking.
I don't know if these roots are normal for Cats or what? I expected the new roots to be silvery or something like that of the phals.
Thoughts?
They may get darker - older roots may become slightly brownish and they may "stain" from the media - but newer actively growing roots will be white. I haven't noticed on my Catts roots "greening" with water. The green growing tips may become greener after watering.
While I'm asking stupid questions, I might as well ask another. The new growth on my Cat is about 2 in. shorter than the last growth. So I was wondering if it isn't getting enough light. And if it is stunted, do you think it will still bloom?

edit: here's another pic
The new growth on the other hand looks very stunted. Usually a pseudobulb will vary in lenght a bit from one growing season to another. But this one looks really looks like it should belong to a juvenile plant. A variety of things can cause this improper watering, lack of roots, even temperature and light. It may or may not bloom.
I've had that happen - smaller new growth - I think it's from after I have rotted roots on plants - I imagine other cultural issues could cause it as well. The growth looks pretty well matured, so if it's not showing a sheath or buds, I don't think it's going to bloom.
