I've had something similar but a lot smaller before, and it was only the odd one.

It didn't cause any problems long term on mine, though yours may be something different.

I'm afraid I've no idea of the cause. Hope someone else can help you.

I have these kind of warts on several of my phals as well, with no ill effects. I suspect it's due to some sort of mechanical damage as the leaf is growing, but don't know what.

Hi Camille,
I posted my same "update question" on another board, and I wanted to share one of the replies that I rec'd with you and Rosie since both of you have had this same or similar issue in the past. A member says he thinks my problem is Edema/Odema....he sent me a link, as well. GP03 - EDEMA

I just thought what the member said might be more "food for thought" if this problem happens to you again in the future.

I wasn't familiar with the condition, but it seems to be another good possibility for an answer to my question (??)

I'm just trying to return a favor to you for always sharing your opinion and advice with me in reply to my questions. I appreciate everyone's help.
Vicki

Thanks Vicki,

I had a very large Edema (about 1/2" accross) on one of my orchids over the summer. It was like a large blister. It seems right that these could be smaller versions of the same thing.

I believe that is caused by the plant drawing up too much moisture then blistering as a result, but I could be wrong about that.

Hi Rosie,
Since I read the site info on Edema, I searched more. From what I've understood, all conditions mentioned that were favorable for it to occur indeed relate to this phals growing conditions since I discovered the "bump problem". Even though Edema is not a contagious issue, I'm still leary of putting my phal back in the greenhouse with my other orchids for fear it may have another problem...or Edema PLUS another problem. As always, I'm pulled..."what to do?!" . (maybe I'm just too paranoid.)
Thanks again for your help...I hope your orchid family is doing well.
Vicki

Thanks for the info Vicki! You did add in the link, but I googled it and found some information. Most of the warts on my phals didn't occur in my care, they were there when I bought them. Good to know that they aren't a problem for the plant.
