ardera - I only "go big" with phalaenopsis. All others I use the same-, or slightly larger pots, letting the size of the root mass be my guide.

beanluc - I find that when placed in large pots, the aerial roots tend to reach out and bury themselves.

LuizaG - DOn't be desperate - the mere fact that you have new root growth is a great sign.

Also, hopefully you will never have roots growing from the "crown", as that is the apical meristem of the plant - the center of the top where leaf growth is initiated. That one root is growing from the base. (Sometimes a new growth will form down there, and it is referred-to as a "basal" growth or keiki.)

Thanks Ray!! I have my PA going thru it's second soaking, and am hoping to get 2 orchids repotted tonight!

Thanks Ray! Yes, I did meant to say that the root was growing from the base of the crown in order to differentiate from the root that is growing from one of the old roots. I just did not know the proper terminology.
It is so rewarding to see the 2 new roots growing so fast after the plant has been stagnating or growing incredible slow for the past 5 months. I looks like it really was the proper time to switch to S/h. Thank you for putting time, effort and money into coming up with the S/H idea. It is so easy and trouble free (at least a lot less trouble than bark and moss)! I am waiting for the time to transfer the other orchid and my carnivorous Dionaea muscipula to S/h.

Watering a S/H pot is soooo much easier :dance13:
