Unhappy I think I need help with my Phal

So, I've included a couple pictures below.

This guy and his identical twin brother were doing fine until I started watering them with the rest of my orchids. Basically putting them all together and using a watering can.

Last week the leaves on his brother started turning yellow, one by one, and falling off. When two leaves were left I found that he had crown rot. Then a couple days ago this one leaf on this guy turned yellow, and while I don't see any crown rot yet I'm a bit concerned that he's going to follow the same path.

What should I do to make sure this guy doesn't end up that way? Or is it too late? Or am I worrying for nothing?

I was so happy when the two spikes started growing out of the original spike and that it still had a flower after so long, and then the yellow showed up.

I've already lifted him further out of the pot so the top of the roots are no longer level with (or lower than) the top of the bark and I haven't watered him in a few days. However, the inside center of the root ball is still a bit damp.

The bottom leaves will turn yellow and fall off naturally. How are your roots, do you have any new root growth?

I'm hoping that's all it is.

There are some greenish nubs near the top of the roots that I'm thinking might be new growth, but I'm not sure.

It's hard to see in those pics, but is there moss in the bark?

The roots look terrible. But if you say there are green nubs, those are probably new roots.

The pot is also too big.

I recommend removing the spikes to have the plant conserve energy.

There's no moss in the bark, I just put a bit of moss where the holes are in the pot so that the bark stays put.

There are three nubs of varying length, all near the top that are definitely new growth. They're dry right now though. What can I do about the other roots?

Leave them on as a way to anchor the plant to the potting media.

Instead of moss, you can use a screen mesh, like the ones used for screen doors. They're very inexpensive per roll.

A much smaller pot is in order though.

I have a roll in the garage and never thought of using it. Thanks.

I'll look for a smaller one tomorrow.
