Question Catasetum busting

weird question. the outer leaves of my ctstm are splitting as the pseudobulbs continues to grow. is this normal? also, do i need to induce dormancy? or shal i just wait until it turns brown by itself and then stop watering

That's normal in some way. It means that your PBs are growing a lot (which is very good!)... sometimes I have also seen some PBs slightly splitting too.

If your PBs are still growing, do not induce dormancy! Let teh plant tell you what it wants... What I normally do with my Catasetinae is wait until they stop growing, in order to stop fertilizing them. Once the leaves start yellowing I would reduce watering untill they all are lost and watering is stopped.

Sometimes plants decide to start a new grow before loosing the leave on the previous PB, forgetting they should go dormant... if thi sis teh case, I continue watering and feeding them as usual..
