how fast do new leaves grow?
Default how fast do new leaves grow?

I recently had a Phal get crown rot. It was growing a new leaf and it got to about 2-3 inches long real fast. (getting larger everyday). And then it got crown rot and two other leaves died. The growing leaf stopped growing when the other leaves started dying.

I have another Phal that has been in S/H for a couple months. It has a LOT of new roots and seems to be doing well. Over the course of a month, a new leaf sprouted and grew about an inch. Since then, it seems to have not grown at all for the past few weeks. During this time, the bottommost leaf turned yellow and I cut it off. There does not appear to be any crown rot.

Is it normal for a new leaf to take a break from growing? The existing leaves are quite large (like 10" long). Seeing the new leaf stop growing gets me concerned after what happened to the last Phal.

Once the plant gets crown rot, about the best you can hope for is a basal keike to save the plant.

Leaves do sometimes stall in their growth, it could be cultural, change in weather, or the plant just decides to do it. As long as the plant is healthy, the leaves will grow. Once a bottom leaf turns yellow, just leave it alone it will fall off when all nutrients are used up.

Hi, You might find it starts growing again or, if it has stalled for some reason, it might send another out when it's ready which will be back to normal.

The reason I say this, is that I have a Phal Mini Mark with a leaf that is half the size of the rest. The growth of this leaf coincided with the growth of 3 flower spikes and so I put it down to the plant using energy for other things. It started growing another leaf once the flowers had finished and, as far as I can tell, it's going towards the full size of the others

As fast as they darned well feel like! In my experience, at least.
Good culture helps, of course.

Take good care of your plants, you've gotten some good advice. Good luck!

Leaves will definately stop growing sometimes. As long as the plant is otherwise healthy, just leave it alone.
