Brown on Burrageara Kilauea pseudobulb
Default Brown on Burrageara Kilauea pseudobulb

Hi,
I've been reading this board for help and advice since I rescued my first box store orchid, but this is my first post.
I'm unsure about how to treat my Burrageara Kilauea TOW. On one of its pseudobulbs, an area of brown is taking over. Can that pseudobulb be saved or should I repot the plant minus that pseudobulb? Any help or advice is appreciated.

hmm ... hard to be certain from the pix- are the brown areas soft ?
Some of my Onc hybrids, the older pbulbs turn brownish, but still firm. I also have some that got "cooked" from being in afternoon sun during heat spells that got brown sunken areas, but it hasn't spread.

If the areas are soft and spreading, it doesn't sound good, tho it doesn't mean the whole plant is in danger. (I have had pbulbs rot, but not spread to the rest of the plant)

I'm interested in what others have to say, as I frequently go with "wait and see" myself, tho I'm sure that's not always the best way to go

If that pseudobulb continues to rot and she can't stop the rotting from spreading, that new growth is as good as dead anyways.

By then, the problem would have worsened.

Should the brown spot have been smaller, I'd say keep it and treat it.

Most Oncs are pretty fast growing anyways. It'll recover.

It is now in another pot and I have not seen any sign of rot or browning. Thank you for the welcome and the advice!
