A couple of things for you to consider, but I can't offer anything real specific because growing indoors in B.C. and outdoors in FL are pretty different.

A young plant needs more frequent moisture than a mature plant, but sphag can really hold moisture for quite a while.

I fully agree with the comments that source material for a fertilizer is insignificant. What is very significant is the concentration and frequency. Every day sounds like a lot of fertilizing. If you don't rinse it out of the medium periodically it can build up to higher concentrations than you would ever intentionally feed.

Young plants can dehydrate very easily. Rather than watering / misting so frequently, can you increase the humidity in some way?

The baby's look healthy, and a couple of years will fly by. There's nothing like the first bloom on a plant you brought back from deaths door. A newly purchased plant may be bigger, with more "show", but it won't match the feeling you'll get from this one.

Hey thanks for all the advise everyone. I really appreciate it. As soon as I can( Tofino is a bit out of the way) I am going to get all geared up for this little guy. And thanks for the encouragement BobInBonita-my thoughts exactly for saving it. Florida is deff. better for growing orchids then B.C. I visited a couple of societies in Sarasota when I lived there with some amazing collections from around the world-just gorgeous! That's where I moved from-funny how life works. I should be growing evergreens! ha ha

All I know is that when I was using fish emulsion I had a lot of rotten roots but I didn't know what was causing them. It wasn't until I read on one of the forums that another grower complained about the same thing and attributed it to the fish emulsion. I compared notes with a grower in Missouri and she also said the same thing. We stopped using the fish emulsion and had no more rotten roots. I haven't had a rotten root in three years.
