First Haul from an Orchid Show!!!!

I had such a good time this weekend, my first orchid show!
Denver Orchid society hosted it at our Botanic Gardens, and it was lovely. Only complaint was that the lighting in the room they chose was AWFUL for pictures. I'll post some later though.

Michel's Orchids, Natt's Orchids, and Norman's Orchids all came- and Oak Hill!

I believe someone was concerned about Norman's- I looked at their plants very carefully, many looked freshly repotted and all looked healthy.



I talked with Greg for about an hour- what a really candid and fun guy! And a pleasure to joke around with. I'm glad the show was small enough that we had time to chat.
He was very sympathetic with my "strapped for cash" situation and not being able to take all the plants that I preordered + the ones that followed me home.

That being said, with self-control in hand, only 4 followed me home: the C. Aloha Apricot 'Waunakee' that I had preordered- an older red bred by J. Woltmon, a Phal. Mini Mark 'Holm' and Onc. Twinkle 'Red Fire' (both that I've wanted forever), and mom picked out an Asconopsis Irene Dobkin that will be a fun new challenge. Pretty happy to see that it's parents are an "easy growing, drought tolerant" vanda (Ascocentrum miniatum), and mostly P. amabilis/aphrodite. Hopefully with the miniatum in it's background, it will like my lower humidity.

The Twinkle has four well developed spikes on it- but because my mother was rushing me so much in choosing, I did not notice that two of the pbulbs have what looks like some mechanical damage. Looks clean and dry, so I'm not that worried.
The Mini Mark has either a spike or a basal growth- their spikes look very different from other phals don't they?
And the Aloha Apricot he brought me is in sheath.

Nobody brought media or supplies like I was hoping (learned that I should have preordered), but Greg gave me a large pot full of fresh mix from a division that fell out in transit.

I'm regretting now not getting a very sweet mounted L. perrinii....perhaps next year.



All in all, very impressed.

ETA: Can you believe that Greg drove all the way to Denver with his Orchids? He has relatives in CO, so apparently comes to our shows relatively often. I thought that was pretty neat.
