Default over watered orchid

Hi, Somebody plz tell me wht to do?asked neighbor water the orchid once in a 5 days.she misunderstood and watered the plant daily, after i got back i saw tht my orchid leaves were yellow, falling and flowers were wilting, after little research i understood i have to remove it and check for root rot and tht happened becoz of over watering..it indeed had rotten roots which i cleared most of it.i still think it has some solid roots and planted it back in a less moisture coconut fiber pot.now i have 2 yellowing leaves and wilting flowers which is getting worse.will my orchid survive?.when should i water this plant again?and should i keep the flower spike or cut it?is there anything i can do to make it better.

Do you have a picture? What kind of orchid is it?, what was it potted in first?, how long have you had it? We need a little more information to help you.

akkkk!! you did the right thing, but you should remove the flower spike also, a plant in that much stress shouldnt have to support the flowers too....only time will tell if there is enuf strength left in the plant to pull out of this mess....gl

its a little tough for me to put up a picture..my orchid is Phalaenopsis..we got it around 2 weeks back...it was still potted in same medium...it was fine till i left for vacation .. the water was put by neighbor and never drained the plate down and at some point water stayed in container...right now one yellow leaf fell off and another is half out and half green ...and other 4 r green and all still there...top 3 flowers are half wilted rest are fine and bud seems to be blooming..i will do anything for this plant to live...

You said you now have it in coconut fiber, you should be able to water it twice weekly. Where are you keeping this orchid? How much light is it getting.? Can you stick a sharp pencil in the coconut fiber to see if it is moist, wet, or dry, it should be moist? Since you have only had it two weeks there may be some adjustments it needs to make for its new environment. Water, and leave it alone, give it a few days and see how it is doing.

You might try using some Dynatec Pro-tekt on it as well. It helps with environmental stresses such as over/under watering and temperatures. I've saved several of mine using a little bit at a time on already stressed plants. I wouldn't use the full strength recommended on the package as your plant is already stressed out and doesn't need an extra shock.

thanx!!! i put the pencil in and it came out damp... not too wet but definitely not dry...so i dont exactly know wht to interfere from it...i stay in a place where its normally clod.. not too clod between 16 to 25 degrees... its raining so humidity is good...and orchid is at my window where it gets bright light but not direct sunlight..good air circulation at home... plz let me know if i have to make any changes...i still did not get as to if i should keep the flower spike even if all the flowers r not wilted .. and the other yellow leaf fell off...now i am left with 4green leaves..
