Default What is it?

Received a plant from a friend with the words "it's an orchid". I can't find it in any of my orchid books and wondered if anyone here knows what it is.

Thanks for all replies.

Looks like Dendrobium kingianum or one of its hybrids. Look for culture information on that species.

Appreciate the fast responses. Thank you both. Pretty humbling not to know a dendrobium, but my books focus on the flowers--not the plant. Maybe there's an opportunity for someone!

Don't worry Dave, there are a LOT of different Dendrobiums, it's one of the biggest Orchid Genuses there is.

You are right that we often neglect pictures of plants and focus on the flowers, that's why it's good when many of our members post plant pics along side their flower ones.

A good example is Pleione which I had seen flowers of lots of times... but was amazed when I saw the plant because, well there is not much of a plant to speak of especially when you consider the large flowers it produces.
